8–10kg of “spent grains” are generated per litre of whiskey produced – A proportion of which is repurposed for animal feed and some incinerated for energy & heat = >2mT of spent grains.
Distillers and operators continuously invest in assets and equipment to off-set the energy intensity of their stills including local use of process waste lant to incinerate distillery draff to generate ‘renewable’ energy
